Learning Together

Blog Archives:

This blog was written by Walking Together Learning Leader Tena Siebenga-Valstar who is serving and learning together with Robert Koole by facilitating a project in Nicaragua called Sustaining School Improvement.

In the last few days we have been busy planning in the evenings so have not taken the time to write. The facilitators have worked hard. One said today, “When the seat gets tired, the brain no longer works.” Maybe this was because they were asked to do something out of the box or maybe by this time they were mentally tired from being so involved. As I often say,

“They do all the work; we just ask the critical questions.”

Asking the critical questions, trying to be aware of the culture as well as the language difference requires time and wisdom. I thank God that He has blessed us during this week of working with the facilitators.

They worked diligently on the improvement plan for the schools in which they train teachers. They also did a practice run in creating an action plan which flows out of the process. Today in addition to the facilitators we had a few board members of ACECEN join us. We trust everyone learned as we examined the roles and responsibilities of a board member. Going out for a supper of pupusas (a food from El Salvador) and later ice cream, beside the lake was a pretty good way to end the day. Once again we experienced how much fun these Nicaraguans are as they create their own entertainment. Tomorrow we conclude our sessions together.
