Opening Doors with the Key to Success: Education Cornerstone Presbyterian High School, Belize

Blog Archives:

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps."  Proverbs 16:9

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."   Jeremiah 29:11

With these two Scriptural "cornerstones", the graduation evening of Cornerstone Presbyterian High School began its celebrations.  Fifteen beautiful young people were able to say that they had, with the help of their Christian teachers, leaders and parents, opened the next door to their future through a Christian education.

Guillermo Laib, who represented the graduation class, gave the Salutatorian Address which included thanks for a Christ-centered education where the love of Christ was demonstrated, where hard work was lauded and his experience of his class was like a family.  He encouraged his fellow classmates to be the best version of themselves, to be phenomenal and to continue working hard to be successful for the good of the Belizean country.

The Valedictorian Address was done by Hazael Barrera.  He talked about how the class had accomplished dreams and he was clear about who he most wanted to thank....his Lord and Saviour.  He told a story of how in one of his classes, the teacher had asked the students to press their thumb as hard as they could into their forehead and then to release it.  A mark had formed on their foreheads and the teacher had said that Cornerstone Presbyterian High School was the mark on them forever.  Their Christian education would help them in the future, having shaped their worldview, their life and their desire for service.

Hazael took seriously the call on his life that Belizean society is counting on us to make it better.  He ended with a beautiful quote.....he told his classmates that the secret to his good grades was to study a lot and to rely on God....."I touch the sky when my knees hit the ground!"  What an impressive young Christian leader!

The evening certainly showed to Bill and I the power of education and the beautiful "fruits" of a Christian education.  We saw parents swelling with pride as their son or daughter came in, got their diploma and then became part of a recessional that included parents and guardians.

What a milestone, what a celebration of learning and life!  God be praised for Cornerstone Presbyterian School and for its ability to shape the next generation of young people for service to God and country.  Cornerstone Presbyterian High School is leaning on the promise of our Lord to prosper, give hope and a future to their graduates, their community and their country.

Indeed, each year we can celebrate the impact Christian education is making in the lives of our students!
