The First Arrival

Blog Archives:

This blog was written by Walking Together Learning Leader Roy van Eerden who is working with co-leader Diane Stronks and key Guatemalan educators as part of the Vision for Christ-Centred Education - Guatemala Walking Together project.

Well, I have arrived as the first member of the team. My day started at 3:15am, to catch an early morning flight. My trip from Vancouver via Dallas went very well. I am not sure if I am allowed to put in a plug here, but I would prefer flying American Airlines through DFW than United through Houston any day. Of course, I still need to go through US customs on the way back, so we will see what that is like at DFW. But, on to the more important things.

Nico [Kattenberg, Vice President - AMG Guatemala] picked me up at the airport and we discovered why he never goes out on weekend evenings. Traffic was very congested. Nevertheless, we arrived safely at the guest house. It is rather quiet here, in this beautiful rambling house. Only two other people here now, and Diane arrives tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing what I can see outside come morning.

Nico gave me a brief rundown on the work that God is doing here through AMG. I am very much looking forward to finding out more during our introductory meeting on Monday. More than that, I am looking forward to visiting the schools. Seeing kids in their learning environment is always fascinating. It can be so different and so much the same. Finding out the passions of the teachers is also a highlight. Tuesday is the day when that all starts, so I have to be patient. I hope I can gather some great stories.

I will leave it at that for now. Thanks to all of your support in prayer and in sponsoring the work of Edudeo. I have seen firsthand the great work this minstry does in Nicaragua and very inspired to see how God might use us here in Guatemala.
