Day 3: 12 Days of Christmas With EduDeo

Blog Archives:

This blog is Day 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas with EduDeo. Keep following along to read more stories of celebration from 2018.

HANDS, Help Another Nation Develop Schools, is an exciting opportunity to see first-hand the difference that Christ-centred education makes in the majority world. By assisting with school construction projects, there’s learning and serving with local workers, students and teachers in another culture, while making a long-term impact both in the country and in the HANDS participants’ lives.

It’s a short-term service trip with a lasting transformation by addressing a community’s greatest need: a safe school with room enough for all children to learn to live as Christ.

We love the HANDS program at EduDeo for a lot of different reasons. We love seeing HANDS teams and community members serving each other as the body of Christ. We love seeing HANDS teams build deep, lasting relationships in different countries, as they re-visit and strengthen their relationships year after year. Most of all, we love seeing the blessing and encouragement this is to our partners, and their wider community.

"We started to see young teams arrive. Young people – like our students – came and weren’t embarrassed to pick up a shovel or lift blocks. All this helped to inspire our students, and now one of our school strengths is our service to the community.”  - Teacher in the Dominican Republic

In the 2017-2018 year, 13 HANDS teams travelled to Belize, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Zambia. They worked in primary schools and high schools, pouring concrete, laying bricks, painting classrooms and building strong relationships with local workers and the school community.

“All those who helped in one way or another, we give them immense thanks because they had the vision to help and collaborate.” - Teacher in the Dominican Republic

As we look forward into 2019, we’re excited to send 17 HANDS teams to our partner countries, with the hope of adding four more. We know these teams will be visiting old friends, or building new relationships, all while ensuring students around the world have a safe space to receive a Christ-centred education that points them back to the Gospel of Transformation.

“HANDS teams are more than just about the money they raise – these are very important acts of love and service that have a transformative impact.” - Hank de Jong, Executive Director – EduDeo Ministries
