United Nations – Christian Education Style

Blog Archives:

by Hank de Jong

Today I participated in a United Nations meeting…Christian education style! This group in Spanish is called REEDUCA – Network of Christian Schools of the Americas. In Nicaragua, REEDUCA is hosting a two day conference (Thursday and Friday) that is attended by 28 people from nine different countries (including two people from Canada and one from the U.S.).  The other countries represented are El Salvador, Mexico, Haiti, Belize, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. What an inspiring group of people!

Once you cut through the distractions of multiple translators speaking at once (English, French, Spanish), you get a clear sense of the passion for Christ-centred education and the impact it can have on students, their families and entire communities. The group visited two different school sites in the morning leading to many discussions about how best to incorpate the Gospel message into education. Another topic of interest was how best to utilize these schools as beacons of light in their communities. It was refreshing to see many Christians working together, under the name of Jesus Christ, to establish the Kingdom of God. It was encouraging to see educational leaders wrestling with the most effective way to have teachers and students understand what it means to have Jesus Christ as LORD of all of life.

We have also enjoyed times of general networking. Not only have I had the privilege of meeting with our Nicaragua partners (ACECEN), but I have also had the opportunity to meet with our Dominican partner (COCREF) and our Belize partner (Presbyterian Church Schools).  Nothing like having everyone together to sharpen and encourage each other!

God is powerfully at work in these countries. I am more convinced than ever that Christ-centred education is a phenomenal, long-term transformational tool for these nations. I hope this post gives you a glimpse of the passion, momentum and effectiveness of these indigenous educators. On behalf of EduDeo Ministries, and the United Nations – Christian education style, thank you for your prayerful and financial support to allow these exciting initiatives to happen.

"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live (work) together in unity!" Must be an incredible opportunity to fellowship, collaborate, and encourage one another in this very important ministry, Christian education. Blessings to all of you!
