What’s a Beautiful Christmas?

Blog Archives:

Many Canadians can go on and on about the beauty of Christmas. We can talk about the beauty of bright Christmas lights, or of a favourite carol, or of family meal shared. We can rejoice in these gifts, and thank God for blessing us so abundantly.

In the developing world, Christmas does not always come with these same festive activities and extravagant gatherings. But Christmas is beautiful there, too—truly beautiful for those who know the love of Jesus.

For children in these countries, the beauty of Christmas begins in the classroom, where they not only have access to quality education, but have the opportunity to grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord. They learn to live up to their God-given potential and to keep Christ at the centre in all seasons.

We recently asked students attending EduDeo partner schoKristianols around the world what Christmas meant to them--and you can hear the impact of Christ-centred education in their replies!

Kristian, a young student in the country of Belize, said, “In my school we are taught that even though we don’t have parties, give gifts, and all the other things, we can still be happy because Jesus was born into the world,” he said. “He is the light of the world and He gives us a gift of eternal life.”

Fatima, an 8th grade student at Mphamba Basic School in Zambia, said, “My teachers taught me the importance of Christmas that it is the time to thank God for our salvation."

And Julio, a student at Colegio Cristiano Reformado Apocalipsis in the Dominican Republic, told us, “How beautiful is Christmas?... it is joy and peace, we enjoy it more if we have Jehovah.”

Through Christ-centred education, these students have learned the most important lesson of all – that they are loved by their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. At their simple, powerful words, we overflow with joy at God’s transforming work in their lives. We’re inspired by their courage, resilience and strength in difficult circumstances.

But we’re also reminded of the many others who have not yet been given the gift of gospel-rooted education. Millions of children around the world do not have access to education, and over one billion who do not know the love of the Lord. The need is great, and the call to respond with Christ-like action rings out loudly in our hearts and minds.

This Christmas, through the grace of God and generosity of His people, we are working to bring hope to children, families and whole communities in the developing world. To join us in changing lives this holiday, click here.Together we can bring the true, transforming beauty of the Lord to our brothers and sisters around the world—a gift that will make all the difference this Christmas, and in all the days beyond.

What an amazing blessing to behold. What a beautiful Christmas we can give!
